Showcasing Popular Local Artist Ann Michels with George Maurer

The setting is intimate, the stage is pared back to the bare essentials, the show is part unfiltered stories, part unembellished music, part live podcast.

And the audience has an all-access pass.

Get ready to see your town’s favorite musicians get “Stripped Down.”

Stripped Down next showcases popular, local artist Ann Michels at Crooners, performing the songs that inspired her combined with stories, Q&A, and memories on how it all began.

It's almost like you’re eavesdropping as renowned pianist, music composer, and interviewer-extraordinaire, George Maurer, leads Ann through conversations and accompanies her on songs that reveal the layers of her musical life. Her mentors, influences, first bands, big breaks, memorable moments and even stories “from the road” are fair game in “Stripped Down.”

You’ll get to see Ann like you never have before, up close and unvarnished. You can be part of the fun by coming up with a question of your own.

George Maurer has shared the stage with mega-stars like Bruno Mars and Eric Clapton and traveled the country as music arranger and pianist for The Midtown Men, featuring the original Broadway stars of the Tony and Grammy-awarded “Jersey Boys.” Versatile and unflappable, George is like the Swiss Army Knife of pianists, with a performance repertoire that spans jazz, pop, rock, folk, classical, country and plenty of show tunes. His résumé includes indie movie soundtracks, multiple music-theater productions, 20 CDs on his own label, original scores for the National Symphony and arrangements for everyone from gospel choirs to the architects of rock and roll.

Over the last two decades, Ann Michels has worked with many fantastic theater companies in the Twin Cities including, The Ordway, Theater Latte Da, Guthrie, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, History Theatre, Children’s Theater, Jungle Theater, among many others.

You’ve most recently seen her portraying the title character in VICTOR/VICTORIA at Artistry, and as Linda Mason in HOLIDAY INN at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. You’ll next see her in Theater Latte Da’s, BERNARDA ALBA as Poncia, followed by Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’, THE MUSIC MAN, as Marian Paroo.

When she’s not on the theatrical stages you can find her singing jazz with the George Maurer Jazz Group.
